U R Rao Satellite Centre, Bengaluru.

1. U R Rao Satellite Centre (URSC) situated in Bengaluru of Karnataka State is the lead centre of ISRO for satellite technology. URSC is in the forefront of spacecraft technology towards conceptualization, design, development, fabrication, testing, launch and in-orbit management of spacecraft. As a sequel to its mandate of spacecraft development, the centre is engaged in development of cutting-edge technologies of relevance to its activities and infrastructures set-up for design, development, fabrication and testing of spacecraft. Over a period of four decades, URSC has successfully established Indian National Satellite (INSAT) system, which is one of the largest domestic communication satellite systems in Asia-Pacific region and Indian Remote Sensing (IRS) system which is one of the largest constellations of earth observation satellites in operation. Navigation with Indian Constellation (NAVIC) an independent Indian Satellite based regional positioning system with a constellation of seven satellites for critical national applications will be operational shortly. The Space science missions like Chandrayaan-1, Mars Orbiter Mission, Chandrayaan-3, Aditya-L1 and Astrosat have received worldwide acclaim and put India in the global map while at the same time inspiring the generation next. The future missions being undertaken by URSC are highly challenging and provide opportunity towards development of innovative technologies and establish the advanced infrastructure needed for space exploration and beyond.

3. NET/NET Equivalent qualifications:

Any national level examinations conducted by the Central Government departments / agencies for admission to Ph.D. programme are considered equivalent to NET.
The following are the list of examinations, which can be equated to NET for the above positions:
  1. CSIR-UGC National Eligibility Test including NET-Lectureship.
  2. Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) conducted by MoE.
  3. Joint Admission Test (JAM) conducted by MoE.
  4. Joint Entrance Screening Test (JEST).
  5. Selected through National level examinations conducted by Central Government Departments and their agencies and
    institutions such as DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MoE, ICAR, ICMR, IIT, IISc, IISER, NISER, etc.
4. Age Limit:
  • For the position of JRFs:

    Maximum Age of 28 years as on 20.04.2025 i.e. the closing date of receipt of online applications but relaxable by 5 years in case of SC / ST and 3 years in case of OBC candidates. Age relaxations as per Government of India orders are applicable to Ex-Servicemen, Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD), Widows, Divorced Women and Women judicially separated from their husbands and who are not remarried.

  • For the position of RA-Is:

    Maximum Age of 35 years as on 20.04.2025 i.e. the closing date of receipt of online applications but relaxable by 5 years in case of SC / ST and 3 years in case of OBC candidates. Age relaxations as per Government of India orders are applicable to Ex-Servicemen, Persons with Benchmark Disabilities (PwBD), Widows, Divorced Women and Women judicially separated from their husbands and who are not remarried.

5. Fellowship & Stipend:

  • For the position of JRFs:

    The Fellowship will be initially for a duration of TWO YEARS and is extendable for further periods based on the assessment of their work and requirement of project. The maximum period of engagement as Junior Research Fellow and Senior Research Fellow put together shall not exceed FIVE YEARS. JRFs with aptitude to pursue research in the respective areas will be encouraged to pursue Ph.D with an external university registration. Fellowship Stipend as JRF will be Rs. 37,000 per month, with a possibility to be increased to Rs. 42,000 per month, as SRF and HRA at the prescribed rates in force at the place of posting will be paid if they are not provided with Hostel accommodation and Medical benefits for self will be admissible as per extant rules. No DA will be paid. The fellowship amount shall be taken as Basic pay for this purpose. JRFs are eligible only for casual leave. Maternity leave as per Govt. Of India instructions would be available to all female JRFs. Apart from this, the candidates selected will not be entitled to any other benefits or concessions admissible to regular employees. In addition, JRFs are eligible to get subsidised canteen facilities.

  • For the position of RA-Is:

    The RA-Is will be engaged initially for ONE YEAR with a Fellowship of Rs. 58,000 per month and extendable for further period based on assessment of their work and requirement of Project. The maximum period of engagement of RA-I shall not exceed beyond THREE YEARS. RA-Is will also be eligible for HRA at the prescribed rates in force at the place of posting will be paid if they are not provided with Hostel accommodation and Medical benefits for self will be admissible as per extant rules. No DA will be paid. The fellowship amount shall be taken as Basic pay for this purpose. RA-Is are eligible for leave as per extant rules of this organisation. Maternity leave as per Govt. Of India instructions would be available to all female RA-Is. Apart from this, the candidates selected will not be entitled to any other benefits or concessions admissible to regular employees. In addition, RA-Is are eligible to get subsidised canteen facilities.

6. Selection Process:

The qualification prescribed against each of the respective positions of JRFs and RA-Is is the minimum requirement and possession of the same does not automatically make the candidates eligible to be called for Interview. There will be an initial screening based on the academic performance and other parameters given in the on-line applications and only those who screened-in, will be called for Interview. The call letters for the Interview to the short-listed candidates will be sent only by e-mail. The result of the interview will be announced in the ISRO website subsequently.
    NOTE:

  • All degrees should be duly recognised by AICTE / UGC or any other organisation authorised by Government of India to do so.
  • The Essential Qualifications should have been completed within the stipulated duration of the course as prescribed by the University. Where a University mentions both CGPA and percentage of marks in its Degree Certificate or Consolidated Mark sheet, then at least one criteria (either CGPA or Percentage) should meet DOS / ISRO'S eligibility norms.
  • The rounding of percentage of Marks / CGPA Grading is not allowed. It should be entered to the nearest of 2 points of decimal. For example: 8.235 may be entered as 8.23, 8.236 may be entered as 8.24
  • Where a University mentions only CGPA in its Degree Certificate or Consolidated Mark sheet, then the CGPA so mentioned should necessary meet DOS / ISRO’s eligibility criteria. Conversion of CGPA into percentage of marks is not permitted to determine eligibility, regardless of whether any conversion formula is prescribed by the University / Institution concerned. The same criteria apply mutatis mutandis in cases where only percentage of marks is mentioned in the Degree Certificate / Consolidated Mark sheet.
  • The on-line application has to be invariably followed-up with a 'No Objection Certificate (NOC)' from the Employer concerned by those who are already in employments under Central/State Government, Public Sector Undertaking or Autonomous Body, duly indicating the Name, the position for which applied/Position No. and Registration No. on the reverse of the NOC.
  • For candidates having Dual / Integrated degree:

    • Where a CGPA / Percentage for Graduation and Post - Graduation is mentioned separately in Dual / Integrated Degree Certificate, CGPA / Percentage of the Graduation and Post - Graduation shall be reckoned independently as per the existing procedure.

    • Where a common CGPA / Percentage applicable for the entire course of study only mentioned in Dual / Integrated Degree Certificate, Final CGPA / Percentage as mentioned in the Dual / Integrated Degree Certificate as applicable for the entire course of study shall be reckoned for deciding the eligibility.

    • Where a University does not prescribe any CGPA / Percentage in Dual / Integrated Degree Certificate the cumulative CGPA / Percentage as per Final / Consolidated Mark sheet, as applicable for the entire course of study shall be reckoned for deciding the eligibility.

    • The above criteria will apply uniformly regardless of whether or not a University / Institution prescribes a formula to derive the CGPA / Percentage for Graduation / Post Graduation in its Dual / Integrated Degree Certificate.

    7. How to apply :

  • The application for on-line registration will be hosted in the ISRO web-site i.e www.isro.gov.in under the caption "CAREERS" during the period from 22.03.2025 to 20.04.2025.Candidates may visit our website to register their applications on-line between 22.03.2025 and 20.04.2025.Applications will be received through on-line only. Upon on-line registration, applicants will be provided with an on-line Registration Number, which should be carefully preserved for future reference. Email ID of the applicant will have to be provided in the online application correctly and compulsorily (Hall tickets will be sent by email only).
8. General Conditions:
  • The position of JRF or RA-I will not confer any claim or right for regular appointment whatsoever in URSC or in any of ISRO/DOS Centres.
  • Originals of all certificates, mark sheets of all degrees and post graduate degree, Ph.D in proof of educational qualification (Equivalency Certificate from Association of Indian Universities, New Delhi in case of foreign Degree) Proof of work experience, age, CSIR – UGC – NET score card or GATE score card or score card received after qualifying the National level examination conducted by Central Government Departments and their agencies and institutions such as DST, DBT, DAE, DOS, DRDO, MoE, ICAR, ICMR, IIT, IISc, IISER, NISER, etc. should be produced at the time of interview. Candidates should also bring self-attested photocopies of all such certificates to the interview.
  • Those Candidates who have pursued Professional course through Open and Distance Learning (ODL) are not eligible to apply both the positions of JRF and RA-I.
  • Applications will be received through on-line only and all further communications will be made to the applicants through e-mail/ ISRO website only. Therefore, the applicants are advised to check their e-mail regularly and visit ISRO website from time to time. URSC will not be responsible for non-receipt of intimation regarding e-mail or / any communication due to technical or whatsoever reasons to the candidates.
  • Only passed candidates are eligible to apply. Students awaiting for final result are not eligible and hence need not apply.
  • The interview will be conducted for the screened-in candidates in Bengaluru only on a given date. However, URSC / ISRO reserves the right to change the venue / date of interview.
  • Any request for change in place and venue of interview or e-mail id for communication of the candidates will NOT be entertained.
  • Junior Research Fellows will be engaged initially for TWO YEARS and is extendable for further period based on the assessment of their work and requirements of project. The maximum period of engagement of Junior Research Fellow and Senior Research Fellow shall not exceed FIVE YEARS. Awarding of SRF will be at the sole discretion of ISRO/DOS/URSC after the completion of two years as JRF. The fellowship will not confer any claim or right whatsoever for regular appointment in URSC or in any of ISRO/DOS Centres.
  • The Research Associates will be engaged initially for ONE Year and is extendable for further period based on the assessment of their work and requirement of the Project. The maximum period of engagement of RAs shall not exceed THREE YEARS. The fellowship will not confer any claim or right whatsoever for regular appointment in URSC or in any of ISRO/DOS/ Centres.
  • The number of positions indicated above are provisional and may vary depending on the actual requirements.
  • If a candidate does not fulfil the eligibility / conditions given in the advertisement, his/her candidature will be cancelled summarily at any stage on scrutiny whenever the discrepancy is noticed i.e. before or during interview or after the announcement of select panel / after issuing the offer letter.
  • The Selected JRFs / RA-Is are liable to be posted in any of the Centres/Units of the Indian Space Research Organization/Department of Space situated anywhere in India, as and when required. For details pertaining to location of ISRO Centre/Units, please visit www.isro.gov.in.
  • Outstation candidates shortlisted for interview will be paid to and fro Second-Class sleeper Railway fare by the shortest distance from the address given in on-line application to the place of interview or non-A/c Govt. Bus / fare or actual fare whichever is less on production of proof of journey, irrespective of the mode of journey performed by the candidate viz., Rail, Bus, Air, etc. If a candidate travels in a higher class of accommodation, by train, by bus or by Air, only second class train fare by the shortest distance excluding reservation / sleeper charges will be paid. (The candidates who are allowed for Interview after the successful document verification will alone be paid eligible Travelling Allowance).
  • Candidates belonging to SC/ST/OBC and seeking age relaxation should submit a latest copy of Caste Certificate/Certificate and candidates who claim age relaxations being PwBD and other categories of candidates as mentioned in para 4 (A&B) above need to bring relevant certificates issued by the Competent Authority in the prescribed proforma applicable for reservation / concessions for jobs under the Government of India.
  • URSC/ISRO reserves the right not to fill up all or any of the positions, if it so desires.

  • CANVASSING IN ANY FORM FOR SECURING EMPLOYMENT IN URSC/ISRO WILL RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION OF THE CANDIDATURE OF THE APPLICANT.
